The Journey Begins: A Stroll from Canary Wharf
Our day began in a leisurely fashion, leaving our cozy abode in Canary Wharf after a quick jaunt to Waitrose. Armed with a croissant, oat milk, and sandwiches, my partner and I embarked on a scenic walk to Greenwich. Despite a few detours, the journey was enchanting, with the river’s glistening waters guiding our path.

Noon Adventures: From Cutty Sark to Greenwich Market
As we approached the underground tunnel just before noon, the Cutty Sark greeted us in all its maritime glory. The bustling open food market offered an array of tantalizing treats (open Friday to Sunday until 6 PM), but we were content with our homemade sandwiches. After a quick restroom break at McDonald's, we wandered through Greenwich Market, captivated by local talents from the nearby university and Trinity Laban Conservatory.

Courtyards and Coffee Breaks: A Taste of Greenwich’s Charm
Our exploration led us past the university courtyards, where summer screens and food trucks created a lively atmosphere. A stop at Gail's provided a delightful break, thanks to their app's free treat on my "birthday". I savored a chai latte with cinnamon and a sweet treat, fueling us for the next leg of our adventure.
Greenwich Park: A Picnic with a View
Climbing the hill in Greenwich Park, we passed charming gardens and tennis courts to reach the Rose Gardens. Though the blooms were sparse, the panoramic view was breathtaking. We settled down for a serene picnic, classical music playing softly in the background.
The Queen’s House: A Regal Exploration
The highlight of our day awaited us: the Queen’s House. After a 15-minute walk down the hill and through the university grounds, the stunning columns of the Queen's House came into view, reminiscent of a scene from Bridgerton. We spent an hour and a half marveling at the art and architecture, including the iconic staircase and portraits.
Twilight Magic: Sunset and Second Picnic
As the day began to wane, we found a grassy spot to relax. Our second picnic, accompanied by laughter and a bit of carefree dancing, was bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun. The Queen's House's closing time allowed us to capture stunning photos outside in the gardens before heading back to Greenwich Park for a final stroll.
Concluding Our Day: A Sweet Farewell
With the sun setting, we made our way back, grabbing a quick snack at McDonald's with a Tesco points voucher. The day, filled with elegance and magic, left us with memories to cherish and a yearning to return.
